Mucho and Members at National Headquarters,

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you after our meeting at your club house on 5 April. We’ve had our work cut out for us fundraising before the end of the financial year, and also organising Legacy Week from 1 to 8 September.

The last time we spoke you were considering running one of the Legacy stands at Logan Hyperdome. Chairman of the Logan Legacy Group, who I believe has met some of your members at an ANZAC Day activity, will be in contact with you to see if you are still able to help.

Mucho when we were speaking you expressed your preference that any fundraising activities be for support to the family of a recent Afghanistan casualty. I can confirm that I now have a family that fits your requirements.

  • 40 year old Lance Corporal,
  • Served in Iraq in 2010 and Afghanistan in 2012.
  • Shot dead in Afghanistan.
  • From all reports, he was a typical Aussie bloke, friendly, with a dry sense of humour and a natural charm. He had a comfortable ease. He would show respect to everyone he met.
  • Most Outstanding Soldier during his recruit course, and Trainee of Merit on his junior leaders course.
  • Devoted family man, leaving a widow and children.

Legacy will remain with this family for the long term, trying to compensate them for their loss, and to create the environment to carry on with their lives, despite the sacrifice they must now endure. The kids in in particular deserve our care, with a special priority given to their education. Volunteers will also mentor the girls through their education and their early adulthood. Another thing we will do is to provide the girls with a break once a year on holiday camps with other young Legacy children like themselves, and who understand their challenges. We are also caring for the mum, with a small amount of financial  assistance, but mainly just being there for her and putting her in contact with other young mothers who have lost loved ones like herself. Our community services staff and legatees will also attempt to help her through her grief and heartache.

Much I hope you are able to help us with collecting for this family during legacy Week 1-8 September. I have passed your contact details to Warwick Chettle, Chairman of the Logan Legacy Group, and he will contact you soon.

Kind regards to you and all your members and their families,

Gavan White
Development Manager
